Blank map of the Maldives

The outline, free as a PNG, SVG or PDF. Label it, colour it in or drop it into a slide.

Using a blank map of the Maldives

The Maldives is a map where scale matters: a lot of administrative areas on a small outline. A blank map of it is something to enlarge, trace and style, more than something to print as it is. This page has two versions. Outline only is the plain shape, and With borders adds the lines between its 21 administrative areas. Each is a PNG, an SVG or a PDF.

Enlarging without losing the lines

Take the SVG when you need the shape big. Place it on a poster canvas in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma and the 21 areas keep their lines at any size, so a detail of one corner of the map can fill a whole page. The PDF is also a vector, and prints on A4 or Letter with the lines intact.

Slides, reports and covers

The PNG has a transparent background, so on a slide it takes the slide's colour. Outline only works as a calm shape behind a title; With borders suits a report page about the areas, with a table of one row per area beside it. In a design tool, recolour each area in your report's palette.

Colouring by name

Names in the list share first words, such as Haa, Gaafu and Alif. Put the With borders PNG in a worksheet and ask pupils to colour the areas that share a first word, using the list further down this page as the key. The quiz worksheet template lays out numbered pins in the editor if you want a naming round as well.

When you need more

For the political blank map, use With borders. For print choices such as black and white, see the printable map of the Maldives. For names, colours or a title, choose Customise this map.

How to do it in MapMaker

  1. Choose With borders for the 21 administrative areas, or Outline only for the plain shape.
  2. Pick SVG if you need to enlarge it, PNG for a slide or a document, or a PDF for A4 or Letter.
  3. Place the file on your page and resize it from a corner so the proportions hold.
  4. Colour the areas that share a first word, and check them against the list on this page.

Questions people ask

Can I make the outline bigger without it going blurry?

Yes. The SVG and the PDF are vector files, so their lines stay sharp however far you enlarge them. That matters for the Maldives, where the shapes are small and a detail may need magnifying.

Is there a political blank map of the Maldives?

Yes. The With borders version is the political blank map: all 21 administrative areas drawn in and no names. The list further down this page gives each name for checking answers.

Does the PNG have a transparent background?

Yes. The area around the outline is see-through, so the map takes on the colour of the slide, poster or worksheet box behind it.

How do I add names, a title or my own colours?

Choose Customise this map. The editor opens the same outline, where you can show names, colour the areas, add pins and a title, then download a PNG, JPG, SVG or a PDF.
