Printable map of Southeast Asia

Printing a map of Southeast Asia
Teachers print a map of Southeast Asia for a geography topic on the region, a quick test on its countries or a display board; parents and tutors print one for homework or a project. There are two versions: With country borders, which draws all 11 countries, and a Blank outline of the region with the borders left out. Both are PDFs for A4 or Letter, in colour or black and white, with no names printed.
Worksheets on the 11 countries
Older pupils can label all 11 countries from the list further down this page, which doubles as an answer key, then swap sheets and mark each other's. For a shorter task, number five of them, perhaps Laos, Brunei, Timor-Leste, Cambodia and Malaysia, and ask for the names.
Younger children can colour each country a different colour and copy its name into a key at the side of the sheet. A research project fits the map too: give each pair of pupils one country to look up, and have them write its capital and one fact on the sheet before the pairs join their maps on the wall.
For a lesson on the region against the organisation, set the printable map of ASEAN beside this one. The two sheets show the same 11 countries, so pupils can use one for the geography of the region and the other for the organisation and its members.
Which version to print
With country borders suits labelling, quizzes and colouring by a rule, since each country has its own shape. The Blank outline suits tasks where pupils draw their own lines or need only the shape of the region. Black and white is the one to photocopy; colour suits a single copy for the wall. To shade some countries before printing, use the bar on the map and then Download your map. For names, a title or A3, choose Customise before printing.
Printing tips
When pupils will lay this sheet beside the ASEAN one, print both at 100% or "actual size", so the countries come out the same size on each. Switch to "fit to page" only if your printer trims the edges.

Questions people ask
Which countries are on the printable map of Southeast Asia?
The 11 countries of the region: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. The list further down this page names them all, so it doubles as the answer key.
Which version should I print for a labelling worksheet?
With country borders. It draws the line between each pair of neighbouring countries, so pupils can write a name inside every shape. The blank outline leaves those lines out and suits tasks where pupils draw the borders themselves.
Does the printable map show the names of the countries?
No. The PDFs carry no names, so pupils can write them in. For a copy with the names shown, choose Customise before printing, show the names in the editor and download a PDF from there.
Can I print it in black and white?
Yes. Choose Black and white before you download, and the PDF prints with no colour at all, which photocopies cleanly for a class set of the region and saves ink.
