Choropleth map of the Caribbean
Paste your numbers by country and get a colour-coded map with a legend.

Your data on a map of the Caribbean
When you have a figure for each member of the Caribbean, such as visitor numbers, hotel nights or survey results, this page puts it on a map. Paste two columns, the country and its value, and Make my map opens the region with its 25 countries and territories coloured by your numbers. The colours above are sample values until you paste your own.
Reading a choropleth of the region
A choropleth colours each area by a value, usually darker for more, with a legend to read the shades by. Here each of the 25 is one area, so the map compares members with each other. It reads best with rates, per person or per km², and it cannot show exact numbers or single places such as resorts or ports; pins do that.
Data that fits
Tourism comes first: visitors, hotel nights or cruise calls per member. Sales teams map orders per person by member, and researchers map health and education figures that are published member by member. A programme manager can use the Categories method to colour each member by a label such as active, planned or not yet, with a legend that names each label.
Small members and the colours
Many members are small on the page and may be hard to make out in a pale shade, so choose colours with a clear step between them. Five classes suit 25 members; Quantile puts about five members in each, while Equal steps gives each the same range of values. If a small member's value matters, add a pin or a text box in the editor to point to it. To colour by hand rather than from figures, use the editable map of the Caribbean.
How to do it in MapMaker
- Copy the country column and the value column from your spreadsheet and paste them into the box.
- Choose Make my map to open the Caribbean with your figures, or Upload a CSV if the table is a file.
- Match or skip any rows the editor listed, then choose a method and five classes in the Data panel.
- Choose Download to save the map with its legend as a PNG, SVG or PDF.

Questions people ask
Which countries can I add data for on the map of the Caribbean?
The 25 countries and territories on the map, from Anguilla to the United States Virgin Islands. The blank spreadsheet on this page lists them all with a code the importer accepts, next to an empty Value column.
Should I map totals or rates?
Rates. A total mostly follows how many people live in each member, so it shows which has the most residents before it shows anything about your subject. A figure per person or per km² makes the members comparable.
What if I have no figure for some of the members?
Leave their rows out. Those members are drawn in the no data colour, which you set in the Data panel, so readers can see where your source has no figure.
Which names and codes does it recognise?
Names in any case and with or without accents, so Curaçao and Curacao both match, plus ISO 3166 codes. A row that still fails is listed with suggestions to fix or skip.
