Blank map of North Korea

The outline, free as a PNG, SVG or PDF. Label it, colour it in or drop it into a slide.

Using a blank map of North Korea

The shape of North Korea as a file suits a briefing slide, a report figure or a class handout. It comes in two versions, Outline only and With borders, which draws its 11 administrative areas, each as a PNG on a transparent background, an SVG and a PDF.

In reports and slides

Put the PNG on a slide with its own background colour; the transparent background means only the outline shows. A report figure can carry the outline alone with a caption beneath, while a figure about the areas can use the With borders file and colour them in your document software. For a clear, restrained look, choose a single colour for the shape and leave the inner lines light.

In a lesson

The political blank map of North Korea is the With borders version. Number six areas for pupils to name, such as South Pyongan, North Pyongan, North Hamgyong, South Hwanghae, North Hwanghae and Pyongyang, and keep the list further down this page as the answer sheet. For younger pupils, Outline only is the cleaner file for a title page.

Which file

Take the PNG for slides and worksheets, the SVG for a design tool or a large print, and the PDF for a ready sheet on A4 or Letter. SVG and PDF stay sharp at any size. For paper and ink choices, go to the printable map of North Korea.

When you need more

Customise this map opens the same outline in the editor, where you can add names, colours, pins and a title. The choropleth map of North Korea shades the 11 areas from a spreadsheet of your own figures.

How to do it in MapMaker

  1. Choose Outline only for the shape, or With borders for the 11 areas.
  2. Download the PNG for a slide or document, or the SVG for a design tool.
  3. Place the file; the transparent background lets your own colour show.
  4. Choose Customise this map for names, colours or a title.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Outline only and With borders?

Outline only is the shape of North Korea with nothing inside it. With borders adds the lines between its 11 administrative areas, with no names, for labelling or colouring by area.

Does the blank map show the names of the administrative areas?

No. A blank map has no names, so they can be written in by hand. For a copy with names, choose Customise this map and switch the names on in the editor.

Does the PNG have a transparent background?

Yes. Both PNG files have no background colour, so the map takes the colour of the slide, page or poster you put it on.

Can I open the SVG in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma?

Yes. The SVG is a vector file that opens in all three and scales to any size without blurring, so you can recolour the 11 areas individually.
