Blank map of South African provinces

The outline, free as a PNG, SVG or PDF. Label it, colour it in or drop it into a slide.

Using a blank map of South African provinces

A blank map of South Africa is mostly used as a base for something else: a worksheet, a revision card, a slide that needs the provinces. With borders draws all 9 provinces with no names on them, and this page puts it first. Outline only is the shape of the whole country. Each comes as a PNG, an SVG and a PDF.

A page of notes in your own layout

Put the With borders PNG on a page and write a short note beside each of the 9 provinces a report covers, with a line from each note to its shape. Because there are only 9 shapes, every note has room. The list further down this page gives the spelling of each province.

Slides and design

The PNG's transparent background takes the slide's colour. Give one province a strong colour and keep the others pale, and the slide shows where a project sits at a glance. For a poster or a report cover, the SVG opens in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma with each province as a shape of its own. Outline only serves a title slide or a logo sketch.

Choosing a version

With borders is the political blank map of the South African provinces and the one for labelling. Outline only is the version for the country's shape on its own. Take the PNG for slides and worksheets, the SVG for design tools and a PDF for A4 or Letter.

The editable map of the South African provinces is the place for names, colours and the countries around. The country has its own blank map of South Africa.

Questions people ask

Is there a political blank map of the South African provinces?

Yes: With borders, the version this page puts first. It draws the 9 provinces as separate shapes with no names, ready to label, number for a quiz or colour in.

What is the difference between Outline only and With borders?

Outline only is the shape of the country with no lines inside it. With borders adds the lines between the 9 provinces, which you need for labelling, quizzes or colouring each province.

Which file should I use in a worksheet, a slide or a design?

Use the PNG in a worksheet or a slide; its transparent background takes the colour behind it. Use the SVG in a design tool, and a PDF when you are printing the outline as it is.

Can I show the countries around South Africa?

Not on this page, which draws the provinces and the outline only. Choose Customise this map to open the same outline in the editor, where the Neighbours switch draws the surrounding countries.
