Blank map of US states
The outline, free as a PNG, SVG or PDF. Label it, colour it in or drop it into a slide.

Using a blank map of US states
Teachers want a blank map of the US states for a quiz they write themselves, students for a project or a revision card, and presenters for a slide about where their customers or teams are. With borders shows all 50 states and the District of Columbia with no names, and this page leads with it; Outline only is the shape of the country without the state lines. Both come as a PNG, an SVG and a PDF.
A states quiz in your own worksheet or slides
Place the PNG of With borders in a document and number ten states, such as Montana, Kentucky, Oregon, Georgia and Vermont. Pupils write the names, and the list of states further down this page is the answer key.
The same outline works as a quiz in slides: put it on each slide, circle one state per slide and let the class call out its name before you move on. For a map-skills lesson, ask pupils to mark Washington, D.C., Miami and Philadelphia with an atlas beside them, then write Canada and Mexico on the side of the sheet where each one lies.
Design and display
The SVG opens in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma, where the state lines can take a brand colour or a heavier weight for an infographic, a team poster or a report cover. Outline only makes a clean silhouette of the country for a title slide or a logo sketch, and younger children can colour it in while they learn the shape.
Choosing a version and a file
With borders is the political blank map of the US states and the one for labelling and quizzes. Outline only suits a silhouette or a first lesson on the shape of the country; the blank map of the United States of America has the same outline on a page of its own. Take the PNG for worksheets and slides, since its transparent background takes the colour behind it, the SVG for design tools and the PDF to print on Letter or A4. For black and white or states coloured in before printing, use the printable map of the US states.

Questions people ask
Is there a political blank map of the US states?
Yes: the With borders version, which this page puts first. It draws all 50 states and the District of Columbia as separate shapes with no names, ready to label, number for a quiz or colour in.
How many states does the blank map show?
The With borders version shows 50 states and the District of Columbia. The list of states further down this page names every one of them, so it doubles as the answer key for a labelling task.
Can I make the outline bigger without it going blurry?
Use the SVG. It is a vector file, so the state lines stay sharp at any size, from a slide thumbnail to a classroom banner. The PNG is a picture of fixed size and softens if you stretch it a long way.
Is there a blank map of the United States of America on its own?
Yes. Outline only on this page is the country's shape without the state lines, and the country has a blank page of its own as well, with the same two versions.
