Blank map of Afghanistan

The outline, free as a PNG, SVG or PDF. Label it, colour it in or drop it into a slide.

Using a blank map of Afghanistan

Most people who need the shape of Afghanistan as a file are building something else around it: a briefing slide, a report cover, a worksheet in their own template. There are two versions here. Outline only is the country with nothing inside it, and With borders draws its 34 administrative areas. Each comes as a PNG on a transparent background, an SVG and a PDF.

On a slide, a cover or a poster

The PNG is the quick route into a deck. Place it on a slide in your own colours and the transparent background lets that colour show, so the outline sits cleanly beside a title or three short figures. For a report cover or a poster, open the SVG in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma instead: it scales to any size without blurring, and every line takes the colour and weight you choose.

Quizzes and labelling

With borders is the political blank map of Afghanistan, and it leaves every area unnamed. Number a handful in your worksheet, perhaps Helmand, Bamyan, Nangarhar, Takhar and Ghazni, and ask for the names; the list of areas below this page is the answer sheet. For a lighter task, Outline only works as a silhouette: show the shape alone as a starter slide and ask the room which country it is before the name appears.

Choosing the file

Use PNG for a worksheet in a word processor and for slides, SVG for design work and the PDF when you want the outline on A4 or Letter as drawn. If the map needs names, pins or a title, Customise this map opens it in the editor. Choices about ink and paper live on the printable map of Afghanistan.

How to do it in MapMaker

  1. Choose With borders for the 34 areas, or Outline only for the shape alone.
  2. Download the PNG for a slide or worksheet, the SVG for a design tool or the PDF for your paper size.
  3. Place the file in your document and number the areas you want named.
  4. Check the answers against the list of areas lower down this page.
  5. For names, pins or a title on the map itself, choose Customise this map.

The map divides it into 34 administrative areas.

Questions people ask

Is there a political blank map of Afghanistan?

Yes: it is the With borders version, which draws the lines of the 34 administrative areas with no names on them. The list of areas further down this page can serve as the key for labelling.

What is the difference between Outline only and With borders?

Outline only is the shape of Afghanistan with nothing inside it. With borders adds the lines between its 34 administrative areas. Both come as a PNG, an SVG and a PDF on A4 or Letter.

Does the PNG have a transparent background?

Yes. Drop the PNG onto a slide or a page and the colour behind it shows through, so only the shape of Afghanistan is drawn. The SVG and PDF are vector files and stay sharp at any size.

How do I add names, a title or my own colours?

The files on this page carry none. Choose Customise this map to open the same outline in the editor, where you can show names, colour areas, add a title on the Canvas tab and download again.
